Trump Attends Melania’s Mother’s Funeral, Misses a Day in E. Jean Carroll Trial

(RepublicanDaily.org) – Former president Donald Trump has blasted the judge in his E. Jean Carroll trial for refusing to postpone court proceedings in light of the recent death of Amalija Knavs, the mother of his wife, Melania.

In a press conference in New York City, Trump told reporters that the decision to not delay the trial came as a surprise because “it’s not an emergency in terms of timing.” However, he said that the judge in this case was a “radical Trump hater,” who told him, “You can go to the funeral or you can go to the trial, but you can’t do both,” the former president said.

Trump blasted the callous decision, calling it “terrible” and a “disgrace.” That’s a nasty man. He’s a nasty judge,” the former chief executive said of the presiding judge in the case, Lewis A. Kaplan.

The trial is about claims made by E. Jean Carroll, a former magazine columnist who accused the former president of raping her in the mid 1990’s in a Bergdorf Goodman department store. She further alleges that Trump defamed her by denying her accusations. The former commander-in-chief was already found liable for the rape in a civil trial held last year. The current trial relates to the defamation claims, and how much Trump will be ordered to pay in damages.

Trump and his entire family were all in attendance during the funeral ceremony for Knavs, who died at the age of 78. The rites and burial were held in Palm Beach, Florida.

The former president sported a dark navy-blue suit as he attended the somber service held at the Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea. He was joined by his son with Melania, Barron, as well as Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, as well as Tiffany Trump and her spouse, Michael Boulos.

Delivering the eulogy, Melania said that she always felt that the “world seemed to shimmer with radiance and joy,” whenever she was around her mother. “Our bond was unbreakable,” she further said of their relationship.
