Steve Buscemi Assaulted in Broad Daylight

(RepublicanDaily.org) – Actor and comedian Steve Buscemi was punched in the face while walking in mid-town Manhattan in New York City.

There was apparently no motive for the attack, which was completely random. The police report on the assault also did not indicate the actor’s name, but his rep confirmed with news outlet that the Boardwalk Empire star was indeed the victim of an assault. The incident occurred just before noon at the 369 Third Ave., in the Kips Bay neighborhood of the Big Apple.

A statement from the actor’s camp indicated that he was just “another victim of a random act of violence in the city.” Buscemi suffered swelling, bruising, and bleeding in his left eye, but “is okay” as per his publicist. He received treatment at the Bellevue Hospital following the attack.

Surveillance photos released by police show the suspect sporting a beard, and wearing a baseball cap and a blue t-shirt with black sweatpants.

Buscemi is a particularly beloved personality in NYC. A former firefighter, Buscemi served with the New York Fire Department’s Engine 55, and was among those who quietly volunteered for rescue efforts during the aftermath of 9/11, where he temporarily rejoined joined his old fire company.

This is not the first time an actor from Boardwalk Empire has been a victim of assault in New York City – just last March 31, Michael Stuhlbarg, one of Buscemi’s co-stars on the show, was walking in Manhattan’s Central Park when someone hit him with a rock on the back of his neck. The attacker was apprehended after Stuhlbarg chased him down. The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Xavier Israel, a vagrant with prior arrests who is suffering from violent tendencies and mental health issues.
