Richard Lewis’ Cause of Death Has Been Revealed

(RepublicanDaily.org) – Richard Lewis, the iconic actor and comedian who passed away recently, was revealed to have died of a heart attack, Entertainment Tonight reported, citing a representative for the late actor.

Another news outlet obtained the death certificate for Lewis, which listed his primary cause of death as “cardiopulmonary arrest.” The National Library of Medicine defines cardiopulmonary arrest as the complete stop of “adequate heart function and respiration,” which often leads to death.

The death certificate also cites “Parkinson’s disease” as the secondary cause of death. Lewis announced last year that in 2021, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. The illness – a progressive degeneration of the nervous system – caused him to cancel his comedy tour and prompted his retirement from show business.

Lewis passed away “peacefully” on February 28 in his Los Angeles home. His wife, Joyce Lapinsky, sent out a statement on social media thanking people for the outpouring of support and requested privacy as the family grieves the actor’s loss. She also directed that any donations to Lewis be sent instead to charity.

Lewis, who was most known for his role in the HBO hit sitcom “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” had struggled for several years with addiction to drugs and alcohol, and suffered from depression and anxiety. The 76-year-old comedian was also known for his lifelong friendship with Curb Your Enthusiasm creator and co-star Larry David. The rapport between the two comedians was one of the major reasons behind the success of the show, which is currently on its 12th season.

Since his retirement, Lewis had said that he would no longer be a part of the show, but surprised fans with an appearance in one of Curb’s episodes in its 11th season last year. The said episode, entitled “Vertical Drop, Horizontal Tug,” aired just two weeks before Lewis passed away.

Lewis’ remains will rest at the Temple of Aaron Cemetery located in Roseville, Minnesota, the Blast reported.
