(RepublicanDaily.org) – Rapper Michael Render, more popularly known by his hip hop monicker “Killer Mike,” was arrested in Los Angeles recently on a misdemeanor battery charge.
The incident was a seeming damper on Render’s accomplishments that night, where he won three Grammy Awards – Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Album. All three were for his eponymous 2023 album, “Michael.”
According to the police, charges were filed against Render by a female security officer who was working at the Grammys. She claimed that Render “pushed” her to the ground after she stopped him and asked to see his ticket to the event. After receiving medical attention and taking photos of her alleged injuries – the victim claims that the “altercation” caused injuries in her hands and fingers – she signed a citizen’s arrest against Render for misdemeanor battery. Security guards then encircled Render and called the police to take him into custody. A video making the rounds on the internet shows Render in handcuffs and being escorted out of the Crypto.com arena where the Grammy Awards are held.
Killer Mike was released on no bail that same night, but is set to face a judge at the Los Angeles Superior Court at the end of the month.
In his defense, Render said that the incident stemmed from confusion over where he and his team would enter. They were in the process of determining the matter when they were accosted by the female security guard, whom Render called “overzealous.” He also said that he believes that he will eventually be cleared of any wrongdoing.
At the same time, he called on the public to continue listening to “Michael” and “keep going after your dreams.”
The segment where Killer Mike won his awards was not part of the main program that was broadcasted, but was instead part of the Grammy’s Premiere Ceremony. The segment goes on air before the main show.
