Olivia Munn Reveals She Has Breast Cancer

(RepublicanDaily.org) – Actress Olivia Munn has revealed that she is battling breast cancer, and said that she underwent a double mastectomy following her diagnosis.

The 43-year-old actress, who made the announcement through a post on photo sharing social media site Instagram, said that by sharing her diagnosis, she hoped to “help others find comfort, inspiration and support” in their own journeys and battles with the disease. The post showed Munn wearing glasses and a patient gown while lying in a hospital bed.

The actress also thanked fans and supporters for their encouraging messages, disclosing that she has had four surgeries so far and has been inundated by information about “cancer, cancer treatment and hormones” as a result of her ordeal.

Munn also credited her breast cancer risk-assessment score for helping to save her life. Her score – “my lifetime risk was at 37%,” the actress wrote – prompted her doctor to ask for more tests, including an ultrasound and an MRI that eventually showed that she had cancer in both her breasts. She encouraged other women to find out their risk assessment score as well and be more proactive with their health.

Munn said that her cancer was classified as a Luminal B, which is an aggressive and fast-moving version of the illness. She underwent her double mastectomy just 30 days after her cancer diagnosis.

She called her OB/GYN doctor, Dr. Thais Aliabadi, her “guardian angel.” Aliabadi is also known to be the doctor for other stars like Rihanna and Khloé Kardashian.

Munn said that she had kept her condition under wraps for some time, saying that she only “tended to let people see me when I have energy.” The actress added that she had to “catch my breath and get through some of the hardest parts” before she could share her situation with the public.

The actress is also a mother to a two-year old boy, Malcolm, with 41-year-old actor and comedian John Mulaney.
