(RepublicanDaily.org) – Certain groups that have historically supported Democrats may be undergoing a shift to Republicans, given the latter’s policies on immigration and taxation, as evidenced by a number of polls in certain traditionally blue states that indicate that voters may just move these states towards purple or even red.
Recent research conducted by the PolCom Lab (Political Communication and Public Opinion Research Lab) of the Florida Atlantic University and Mainstreet Research USA show Trump narrowing his lead over President Joe Biden even before the failed assassination attempt against the former. Biden still leads Trump by 5 percentage points at 47% to 42% when the two are pitted against each other head-to-head.
When factoring in Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Biden’s lead narrows further to only 3 percentage points, 42% to 39%. In contrast, Biden won the state in 2020 by more than 10 percentage points. Post-assassination-attempt, Trump’s numbers enjoyed a bump, putting him at a dead tie with Biden with each garnering 44% of the vote. According to research, some Democrats ostensibly became undecided after the incident, while other undecided voters crystalized their decisions in favor of the former president.
The former chief executive is enjoying an even better status in Georgia, another critical battleground state. Trump has six percentage point lead over Biden, 49% to 43%, an advantage that is also largely maintained even when RFK Jr. is added into the mix. However, the failed attempt on Trump’s life has had ostensibly little impact in polls in the Peach State. However, one controversial poll conducted following the Pennsylvania attack against Trump shows him leading Biden by 3 percentage points in Georgia, a lead that balloons to 10 percentage points if Biden is replaced by vice president Kamala Harris.
In New Mexico, a traditional bailiwick of the Democratic Party, Trump is only behind Biden by 1 percentage point, according to data from RealClear polling. In comparison Biden won the vote in the Land of Enchantment in 2020 by a little more than 10%. Experts and political observers note that many in the state have taken issue with the government’s lenient policies towards illegal immigrants, with many receiving all sorts of benefits despite skipping the legal requirements needed to live in the U.S.
