(RepublicanDaily.org) – Renowned dance music producer Dario G has passed away at 53 years old after a battle with stage four rectal cancer.
The dance producer, whose real name was Paul Spencer, was diagnosed with the disease last year, and frequently documented his journey fighting the illness on social media. In one of his final posts on Instagram, Spencer celebrated his discharge from the hospital after multiple incidents of infection that required that he be bombarded with antibiotics. He also thanked his followers for their support and well-wishes. He also revealed that music was a frequent source of strength that got him through much of his ordeal.
In April, Spencer posted a photo of him in front of a keyboard while on a wheelchair.
“1st piano recital in a chair. Shout out wheelchair users,” he said on Twitter / X. However, he said that physically hurt to play, but he said he still enjoyed the experience.
The announcement of his death was also posted on Instagram, with his family saying that he was “positive until the end.”
“He leaves behind a wonderful musical legacy and many happy memories for many people,” they added.
Spencer was originally part of a trio that carried the name Dario G, that consisted of Stephen Spencer and Scott Rosser, also fellow DJs. Spencer kept the name Dario G when he became a solo artist.
The original group rose to fame with their solo track “Sunchyme,” which was also their debut single. The track climbed to No. 2 in 1997 in the U.K. singles chart, facing stiff competition from the immensely popular “Candle in the Wind”, the Elton John song that he dedicated to Princess Diana. The group broke into the top 5 of the U.K. singles chart again in 1998 when they came out with “Carnaval de Paris,” a track for the World Cup that was held in France that same year.
