Church Service Goes Wrong as Man Tries to Shoot Pastor

(RepublicanDaily.org) – A pastor in Pennsylvania survived an attempted shooting after the gun the suspect was wielding jammed.

The incident was captured on video, as the service was being live streamed. The video shows the suspect, 26-year-old Bernard J. Polite, approach the stage where Reverend Glenn Germany was delivering a sermon. Polite points a gun at Germany, who runs and ducks behind the pulpit. The shooter pulls the trigger, but nothing happens. A member of the congregation then rushes forward, and with the help of the pastor and a few other men, the suspect is restrained and the gun is taken away from him. State troopers were called and Polite was arrested.

Court documents indicate that when questioned regarding his motives, Polite said that he supposedly received instructions from “God” to shoot Reverend Germany. He said that he then intended to wait to be arrested, and spend time in prison to “clear his mind,” according to the court filing.

Polite is facing charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault over the incident with pastor. However, he also faces additional homicide charges after the dead body of his cousin was found at his house after the incident.

The body of 56-year-old Derek Polite was found in Bernard’s residence by relatives after they went to check on Derek when news broke of Bernard’s failed attempt at Germany’s life.

A statement released by police said that relatives decided to check on Derek’s wellbeing after news of Bernard’s attempted shooting, which was when they found the deceased body of the former inside the house of the latter.

For his part, Reverend Germany is saying that his survival is nothing short of a miracle. He told news outlets that he heard the gun click, but “God jammed the gun so the bullet didn’t come out.”

The incident occurred at the Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church in North Braddock, Pennsylvania.
