Bob Menendez’s Wife May Be in Big Trouble as Well

(RepublicanDaily.org) – The legal troubles of embattled – and convicted – New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez may likely extend to his wife, regardless of her current battle with breast cancer.

The trial on corruption charges against the 70-year-old New Jersey lawmaker’s spouse, 57-year-old Nadine Arslanian, has been postponed indefinitely as the latter undergoes treatment for her illness. But that is all that it is – postponed. Arslanian-Menendez is facing 15 of the 16 charges her husband was charged with and was recently convicted of.

The court is also taking the time to review the pertinent documents and evidence arrayed against Mrs. Menendez. The senator’s spouse was set to be tried along with her husband and the other co-defendants, but she became a separate case due to her cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatments.

The indictment against the New Jersey senator was unsealed in September last year, with his wife, along with New Jersey-based businessmen Wael Hana, Fred Daibes and Jose Uribe, were named as defendants. The prosecution alleged that the four perpetrated a corruption scheme where Senator Menendez received cash, luxury items, and even gold bars in exchange for using his political influence to push for legislation favorable to Hana, Daibes, and Uribe, and other interests they represented.

Senator Menendez, Hana, Daibes, and Uribe were all found guilty of all the charges against them. The senator, in particular, may face a hefty prison sentence that may likely result in his being behind bars for the remainder of his life, as well as the loss of his other retirement benefits from his service as a lawmaker.

Sources close to Mrs. Menendez say that she and her lawyers may look at pleading guilty to the charges against her in exchange for a more lenient sentence. The senator’s legal defense effectively threw his wife under the bus, claiming that she was responsible for receiving and concealing all their ill-gotten gain, and that the New Jersey senator had no knowledge of his wife’s activities. However, evidence revealed that both were aware and complicit in their scheme.
