(RepublicanDaily.org) – Since being endorsed by President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris has been receiving commitments of support from various prominent personalities in the party ahead of the Democratic National Convention that is set to happen in August.
One such supporter is Democratic New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who posted, “Kamala Harris will be the next President of the United States,” on Twitter / X the same day that President Joe Biden announced that he would be relinquishing his place as the Democrats’ standard-bearer and endorsed Vice President Harris to replace him. Harris has also went on to receive pledges of support from prominent Democrats, including California Governor Gavin Newsom, whose name has been brought up as a possible replacement for Biden.
Just days earlier though, the ultra-progressive lawmaker and “Squad” member had posted on Instagram warning against mounting calls for Biden to give up aspirations of a second term, saying that it was dangerous to replace a candidate barely a month before the Democratic National Convention. The danger, she said, was especially vital given the threat of former president Donald Trump, who has been taking strides in uniting the Republican Party behind his candidacy. She accused the people calling for a Biden resignation from the presidential campaign of being “without having two eyes wide open”.
In addition, Ocasio-Cortez, who is also better known by the acronym of her name, AOC, claimed that people were “mistaken” if they thought that there was a consensus of support behind Vice President Harris.
AOC’s prediction has run far afield, however, as Harris continues to draw support, and even ostensibly enough to “guarantee” the nomination at the DNC in Chicago on August 19. However, that given prior to his announcement, the president had staunchly denied that he would ever give up this candidacy – which means that nothing is set in stone until the official announcement at the Democratic National Convention, where the delegates will cast their votes for their preferred presidential nominee.
