Millions of Steam Shot Cleaners Recalled

(RepublicanDaily.org) – The threat of causing burns to users has prompted vacuum company Bissell to issue a voluntary recall for millions of its popular hand-held Steam Shot steam cleaners.

According to the company, the recall covers around 3.2 million units. The units, which carry the model series numbers that start with 39N7 and 2994, could shoot out hot water during the heating process or during use, which could cause burns to a person holding or using the device. The model numbers can usually be found on the bottom of the units in its product rating label.

The recall was issued in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The agency has said that to date, it has received 183 reports of hot water shooting out of the Steam Shot steam cleaners, with 157 reports that users sustained minor burn injuries as a result of the malfunction.

As with many major products, the Steam Shot cleaners by Bissell were manufactured in China and sold at a number of retailers including Target, Walmart, and other retail and home goods outlets all over the continental United States. The units could also be purchased on online, including on Amazon. The devices are fairly inexpensive, going anywhere from around $35 to $40 a piece, or $70 for a two-pack set.

Bissell recommends that consumers stop their use of any product that comes with the label “Steam Shot” or “Power Steamer”, even if users have not experienced hot water shooting out of the device. The company is urging users to visit www.bissell.com/steamshotrecall or call toll-free number 855-417-7001 for more information on the recall. The website includes instructions on how to cut the product’s cord and proper disposal of the unit. Consumers are offered the choice of a $40 refund or a $60 credit on the Bissell website for each defective unit and are required to provide a photo showing each unit’s model number and severed cord.
