Trump’s Classified Documents Case Dismissed

(RepublicanDaily.org) – The Florida judge presiding over the classified documents case against former president Donald Trump has completely axed the indictment against the former chief executive, citing the supposed illegality of the appointment of Special Counsel Jack Smith.

U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon ruled that Smith was illegally appointed as Special Counsel by the U.S. Justice Department just hours after the failed attempt on the life of the former president. The classified documents case against Trump had long been put on hold due what Judge Cannon called multiple issues that had to be resolved first before trial proceedings could commence, with many believing that a there was no chance that trial before the November elections would happen.

The ruling, however, puts a definitive conclusion on things, and could affect the other indictments Trump is facing, such as the election interference case that is also being prosecuted by Smith and his team.

The legal victory is the latest win for Trump, who managed to secure a Supreme Court decision just a few weeks back that ruled that U.S. presidents do enjoy a certain degree of prosecutorial immunity for certain acts they do while in office. The decision is expected to be used by Trump’s legal team in the remaining cases against their client, including his recent conviction in the hush money case in the Manhattan district court. Sentencing for the case has been postponed until the potential implications of the Supreme Court decision can be weighed.

Trump’s other indictment, the one in Georgia, also on charges of alleged election interference, has also seen delays in the aftermath of revelations of a possible conflict of interest following the disclosure of a personal relationship between the district attorney in charge of the case and a special prosecutor she hired to join the legal team against Trump.

For his part, Special Counsel Smith said that he would be appealing the decision, and has submitted a motion to that effect with the 11th U.S. circuit court of appeals, which is based in Atlanta, Georgia.
