Biden Ensures Protection for Trump After Assassination Attempt

(RepublicanDaily.org) – Following the failed assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump, the U.S. Secret Service will be providing the former chief executive more enhanced security, as the agency grapples with the scrutiny, criticism, and questions that have arisen in the wake of the shooting in Pennsylvania.

In a recent press conference, Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas said that “based on the evolving nature of threats to the former President” as well as the anticipated transition of Trump from the Republican National Convention’s presumptive presidential nominee to its official nominee for president, the former commander-in-chief will receive enhanced protection. The enhanced security protocols will also cover Trump’s attendance at the Republican National Convention, Mayorkas added.

In his remarks to the press, the DHS chief also disclosed that an investigation into the incident is underway, one separate from the criminal investigation being conducted by the FBI. According to Mayorkas, the independent review will look at the actions of the Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies involved before, during, and after the shooting. The review is aimed at identifying any corrective actions that should be taken to prevent a similar incident from happening in the future.

President Biden, who said that he condemned the attack in the strongest possible terms, admitted that one important question that needs to be answered in the aftermath of the attempt on Trump’s life is whether or not the Secret Service and other law enforcement involved in securing the area that day could have prevented the attack from happening in the first place.

The president’s sentiments were also echoed by Kimberly Cheatle, the director of the Secret Service. Cheatle said that it was “unacceptable” that Trump was even just wounded that day, and said that the attack was “something that shouldn’t happen again.”

Following the incident, the White House has also finally approved the deployment of a Secret Service detail to ensure the safety of Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
