Sonic Employee Shot Dead After Altercation With Customer

(RepublicanDaily.org) – Texas police are hunting for a killer after a customer at a Sonic fast food restaurant shot and killed a worker at the business last weekend.

According to the San Antonio Police Department, the shooting happened the evening of Sunday, July 7 at a Sonic drive-in restaurant in the city’s northwest section. The restaurant is located on Babcock Road. The store manager, 33-year-old Daniel Shrewsbury, died after being shot.

Police have arrested two people in connection with the slaying but have not released their identities, and have not disclosed what, if any, charges have been filed against them. The medical examiner, of course, ruled the death a homicide.

A spokesperson for the Sonic company said they are cooperating with the investigation, but cannot comment further.

Earlier reports indicated that two customers got into an argument with Shrewsbury before the shooting. Apparently the argument concerned the customer’s food order and money, though no further details are available.

Last year, another Sonic worker in Texas died from a gunshot fired by a customer. A boy of just 12 shot and killed employee Matthew Davis at the Sonic location in Keene, Texas. The teen was convicted of murder and sentenced to prison.

Initially, it looked as though Shrewsbury might survive, as he was able to retreat from the shooter after taking a bullet. But by the time paramedics arrived he had died.

A witness, not identified by the media, said they were sitting in line in the drive through talking on the phone when the shooting occurred. The person said they heard what sounded like a gunshot, but that it did not immediately register that it really was gun fire.

Then, the witness said, they heard two additional gunshots and thought “OK, something is happening here.” The person then “tried to get out of there,” and described the incident as “traumatizing.”

In a poignant moment, the witness said, a Sonic employee came over to the car to ask the customer if they still wanted the food order. The witness said they felt bad for the worker, who had a look of shock on her face.
