(RepublicanDaily.org) – An afterparty of the Pride parade in Chicago descended into chaos that saw multiple people arrested for assault and weapons charges.
The incidents occurred on Clark and Halsted Streets in Lakeview, which is located on the North Side area of the Windy City, where police arrested 53 people. Offenders were jumping on cars and throwing bottles, fighting, as well as engaging in wild and lewd behavior in public. A number of arrested individuals were also found to have been carrying weapons.
Several police officers were also assaulted, with one officer attacked by a 20-year-old woman who refused to comply with orders from police. The suspect allegedly struck the police officer multiple times and pulled the officer’s hair – the officer sustained a minor laceration but refused treatment on the scene.
While the Pride parade itself was largely peaceful, the afterparties that followed went well into the night and the wee hours of the morning. Chicago police anticipated this, and dispatched a higher volume of officers to address and prevent problems. Residents said that the real problems were the groups of intoxicated and drunk people that remained on the streets and partied despite the late hour, heedless of warnings and encouragement from police officers for them to go home.
“People were intoxicated and just being loud and being rambunctious,” said a Chicago local. “It was pretty wild,” she added.
“Without the responsiveness and attention of the men and women of CPD,” Chicago PD said in a statement, “the residents, businesses and visitors to this area of the city would have likely faced increased criminal activity well into the early morning hours.”
The violence in Chicago followed similar incidents that occurred after the Pride parade in New York City, which saw multiple people engaged in fistfights. Anti-Israel protesters also attempted to disrupt the parade, blocking routes and even vandalizing floats while chanting pro-Palestine and pro-Hamas slogans.
