(RepublicanDaily.org) – A leftist “Christian” group has managed to collect more than 10,000 signatures in a petition calling for the resignation of conservative Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito.
The petition was spearheaded by Faithful America, a group the describes itself as a “grassroots movement of Christians” and says that it supports social justice while condemning “Christian nationalism” at the same time. In its petition, the group said that Justice Alito was “unfit” to remain as a member of the country’s highest court.
“This man is far from impartial,” part of the petition read, and thus “cannot remain a justice on our nation’s highest court.”
The petition comes on the heels of a recording that has surfaced where Justice Alito can be heard agreeing that the U.S. should return “to a place of godliness”. The recording was made secretly by Lauren Windsor, a liberal and progressive documentary filmmaker, who spoke to the Supreme Court justice during the high court’s Historical Society dinner which was held on June 3. Windsor attended the party pretending to be a conservative.
On top of that, in 2021, the justice’s house in Virginia flew an upside down flag of the United States along with an “Appeal to Heaven” flag, which in turn was flown outside his vacation house in Long Beach, New Jersey. Both flags are associated with the far-right movements and the rioters during the January 6, 2021 fracas at the Capitol.
Alito has also been embroiled in an ethics scandal along with fellow Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Critics say that both justices received lavish gifts from wealthy conservative personalities that came in the form of expensive vacations and travel perks. In fact, another petition – one that has gathered more than 77,000 signatures – is calling for Alito and Thomas to recuse themselves in a case the Supreme Court is looking at regarding former president Donald Trump’s claim that his actions during his presidency are covered by executive privilege and thus make him immune from prosecution.
