(RepublicanDaily.org) – “The Hunter Biden gun conviction is kinda dumb tbh [to be honest].”
This was the statement of Republican Florida Representative Matt Gaetz on the recent conviction of presidential son Hunter Biden on charges of making false statements regarding his drug use in a federal form, making false statements to a gun dealer, as well as illegal possession of a firearm.
Republicans across the board have condemned the conviction of Hunter, saying that it merely amounts to a slap on the wrist for the family of President Joe Biden. Conservatives continue to claim that the president and members of his family financially benefitted from a number the younger Biden’s supposedly suspicious at best, illegal at worst, business deals with foreign entities.
Hunter has yet to be sentenced and will be appealing the conviction, which could see him go to jail for as long as 25 years. President Biden has also said that while he and his family continue to support Hunter in the latter’s ongoing legal ordeal, he will not issue a presidential pardon for his son. Biden has also kept his distance from the investigation into his son by the Justice Department, in an attempt to allay suspicions of any impropriety.
However, many conservatives and members of the GOP are not convinced.
“It’s all for show so the talking heads can say the justice system is fair,” said a Twitter user responding to Gaetz’ comment.
Charlie Kirk, the co-founder of conservative non-profit and activist organization Turning Point USA, called Hunter’s trial “fake” and said that it was merely lip service to a supposed “balanced” justice system.
“Don’t fall for it,” Kirk warned.
Nancy Mace, the Republican South Carolina representative, agreed, saying that the Biden administration is merely attempting to project a “veil of fairness” in the country’s current justice system.
Republican Kentucky Representative James Comer, who chairs the House Oversight Committee, said that despite the conviction, it remains “clear” that officials from the Department of Justice “continue to cover for the Big Guy, Joe Biden.”
