(RepublicanDaily.org) – Republicans have released a previously unaired video of Democratic California Representative and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi admitting that she was to blame for failing to quell the January 6, 2021 at the Capitol.
The video, which was recorded by Pelosi’s daughter Alexandra Pelosi, has the Democratic stalwart saying that she should have asked for a deployment of the National Guard.
Protesters calling for the removal of President Joe Biden and insisting that former president Donald Trump was the real winner of the 2020 presidential elections breached the Capitol on January 6, 2021, easily outnumbering the security detail there that day – a fact that Pelosi appears to have realized too late.
“They clearly didn’t know [how large and forceful the protest would be],” Pelosi is heard saying in the video, referring to why the National Guard was not present to help support the security detail at the Capitol. “I take responsibility for not having them just prepare for more,” the California congresswoman is further heard saying.
The younger Pelosi, who is a documentary filmmaker, provided the footage of her mother to HBO, which produced a documentary about the January 6 riots in the Capitol. The footage of the congresswoman was not included in the final form of the documentary, but was included in the footage given to Congress by HBO as part of the Lower House’s investigation into the January 6 protests.
Pelosi is seen later though, after the initial shock of their evacuation, working alongside Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and then-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to coordinate a military response to the riots from Fort McNair. All the legislators are also seen contemplating whether or not to convene Congress at Fort McNair to finish certifying the results of the 2020 elections.
Republicans are framing the new footage as proof that the blame for the January 6 riots lies with Pelosi and the Democrats – instead of then-president Donald Trump, whom Democrats say ultimately failed to dispatch the National Guard due to his supposed sympathies with the protesters. Pelosi however, has dismissed the importance of the video, saying that the GOP is “trying to do revisionist history” around the events of January 6.
