(RepublicanDaily.org) – Alice Stewart, a stalwart Republican commentator for CNN, has passed away at 58 years old.
Stewart was found dead outdoors in her neighborhood of Bellevue in northern Virginia. Police say that at the moment, no foul play is suspected, and her death was likely caused by a medical episode.
Stewart first worked as an anchor for local TV in Georgia and Arkansas, but moved on to serve as communications director for prominent personalities in the GOP. She took on the role for former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee until his presidential campaign in 2008. In 2012, she also served in the same capacity for the presidential campaigns of former Minnesota representative Michele Bachmann and then later, the presidential campaign of former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum. She also brought her expertise to the 2016 presidential campaign of Texas Senator Ted Cruz.
She joined CNN just before the 2016 presidential elections and has been a regular fixture representing conservatives at the network. Stewart last appearance on the network was on the May 17 episode of “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.”
Ashley Allison, a Democratic commentator for CNN who famously got into a heated exchange with Stewart over the 2022 overturning of Roe vs. Wade in the Supreme Court, remembered the latter as a dear friend. Allison said that after the exchange, Stewart invited her out for a drink, and after some initial trepidation, she accepted. The two became close friends after that and even trained for a marathon together.
“That night we got to know each other for who we were,” Allison recalled. “It wasn’t about politics. She was a good person and I loved her,” she continued.
CNN CEO Mark Thompson sent out an email to the network’s staff announcing Stewart’s death, where he praised Stewart’s political savvy and “unwavering kindness” and said that she “brought an incomparable spark to CNN’s coverage.”
