Bob Moore Dead at 94 Years Old

(RepublicanDaily.org) – Bob Moore, who founded and built the whole grains company Red Mill, has passed away at the age of 94.

Moore died peacefully in his home in Milwaukie, Oregon, reports say. A company press release in his passing called him “one of the most recognized figures in the natural foods industry,” with his bearded and bolo-tied likeness adorning the Red Mill logo for decades. Red Mill has been the brand of choice for many home bakers, gluten-free diners, vegans, and health-food enthusiasts who want a quality alternative to more mass-produced and commercial products.

Moore, who also often sported a red vest and a flat cap, founded Red Mill in 1978, initially serving the Portland area, expanding its reach to the national and even global level as the company grew. The company was born out of Moore’s interest in nutrition and whole grain cooking, which led him to explore stone milling. Red Mill was one of the few companies back then to adopt stone milling in its production and was also one of the earliest to provide gluten-free products to consumers. Later, Moore and Red Mill also made waves for passing on ownership of the company to employees by giving them company stock.

Despite his advanced age, many also praised Moore’s excellent work ethic, as he continued to serve on the company’s board until his death, guiding the company to even greater success while also serving at its affable and approachable public face.

“He did everything in his power to leave us on a strong path forward,” Trey Winthrop, Red Mill’s CEO, said of the legacy Moore left behind. Winthrop promised the they would stay true to Moore’s commitment to using pure and high-quality ingredients, as well as his “old-world approach to unprocessed foods,” along with the value he placed on company employees and workers.

Moore left behind three sons, nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
