(RepublicanDaily.org) – Controversial comedian Pete Davidson has admitted to being high on ketamine when he attended the funeral of legendary soul singer Aretha Franklin.
Davidson made the confession as part of his routine for his Netflix comedy special, Turbo Fonzarelli, which was released recently. He recounted he was so high that he considered coming up to Franklin’s family and say, “’Hey, I’m just here to pay my R-E-S-P-E-C-T…S’,” in reference to one of the singer’s most iconic songs.
The comedian and actor said that he was a ketamine addict for “the past two and a half, three years.” He has since undergone rehabilitation.
““It’s embarrassing when you’re not on ketamine anymore,” he said of the incident, but, “I have to live with that.”
Franklin passed away in 2018 after a battle with pancreatic cancer, and her funeral was held in August of that year, in Detroit, Michigan. She was 76 years old.
Davidson, who was popular as a member of the SNL comedy show, was at the funeral presumably as the plus-one of pop singer Ariana Grande, whom he was dating at the time. The two had an intense but short-lived relationship, and even got engaged at some point. They became a couple and broke up that same year, in 2018.
In his Netflix special, Davison opens up a lot about his life in general, including his time as an addict, saying that he decided to take steps to become sober because, he reasoned, “you can’t be a drug addict in your 30s.” Still, he described being on ketamine as a “magical” and “amazing” time. According to information on the Drug Enforcement Administration’s website, ketamine is a “dissociative anesthetic” that also gives its users hallucinations.
“I was out and about like that,” Davison said of his time as a ketamine addict. “That’s not cool, you know? … That’s ****** up, right?”
