(RepublicanDaily.org) – Tech billionaire and Microsoft founder Bill Gates has been a busy man, called on numerous times during the pandemic to offer his opinion on vaccines and lockdowns, and, now, on lessening global climate change. The White House is among the powerful institutions now looking into Gates-backed technology that seeks to block out the sun in order to reduce global warming. The technology known as solar radiation modification (SRM) has been backed by far-left figures including Gates and fellow billionaire progressive philanthropist George Soros.
SRM disperses small particles into the earth’s atmosphere in order to interrupt the sun’s rays from getting through and would need 175,000 spraying flights per year to accomplish its preliminary sun-blocking targets. The White House’s Office of Science and Technology Policy recently issued a report saying that SRM has big potential of “cooling the planet significantly” in the coming years and is worth looking into further. The report emphasizes that the danger of “exceeding global temperature targets” means that radical measures like SRM should be seriously considered. However the report also notes that the potential “ramifications” of using SRM still aren’t fully “understood.”
Other ideas that have been suggested to stop the progress of climate change are putting plastic sheeting in deserts to bounce back the sun, geo-engineering foliage to have more reflective leaves that bounces back the sun, or sticking giant mirrors in space to reflect sun back on itself. For his part, Gates has been highly supportive of solar engineering, depicting it as a reasonable and perhaps necessary measure to fight against climate change. Gates is also helping fund research into SRM at Harvard University in order to prove its efficacy and potential. Harvard’s research group attempted to experiment and test out SRM with the help of Sweden’s space agency, but were met with opposition from indigenous groups and leading environmental activists such as Greta Thunberg, causing them to call off their tests for the time being.
