White House Thinks Laws Prohibiting Transgender Athletes to Compete Against Women Is Bullying

(RepublicanDaily.org) – The debate around trans participation in women’s sports is back in the news again. Trans University of Pennsylvania swimmer Lia Thomas has been performing exceptionally well in women’s college events, leading many female athletes to protest against the perceived unfairness of the situation. Some states have implemented legislation to stop trans women from competing in female sports, but the Biden administration takes a dim view of such laws.

On Monday, February 7, Assistant White House Press Secretary Kevin Munoz slammed the state of South Dakota over its new law barring trans women from competing in girls’ sports in accredited schools. Munoz accused the legislation of bullying young trans people and using their situation for political reasons. Gov. Kristi Noem (R) signed it into law last week, making South Dakota the tenth state to enact legislation of this nature.

President Joe Biden is currently backing the Equality Act, a piece of federal legislation that would introduce a range of new protections for members of the LGBTQ+ community. The overall aim is to protect such individuals from discrimination. It’s not clear whether the bill would be able to limit a state’s ability to pass legislation similar to what South Dakota has in place.

Do you agree with the Biden administration’s position on this issue?
