White House Won’t Stop Emergency Powers Despite Admitting There’s No Emergency
(RepublicanDaily.org) – In a wide-ranging interview on Sunday’s episode of CBS News’ “60 Minutes,” President Joe Biden remarked that the COVID-19 pandemic was “over” in the United States. This has drawn criticism from some commentators who are questioning why the Biden administration is still exercising its emergency powers if it truly believes the pandemic is a thing of the past.
An official Public Health Emergency (PHE) has been ongoing in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic since January 2020. This state of affairs hands the federal government increased powers when it comes to imposing rules that seek to manage the identified emergency.
Following Biden’s remarks, White House officials were forced to clarify the official position on the PHE. A CNN report quoted an administration official who said the current policy on the COVID-19 response has not changed in light of the president’s comments, and the Public Health Emergency will likely remain in place until at least October 13, when it’s scheduled to run out.

Do you think the continuation of the public health emergency is, on the whole, a benefit to the American people or a burden on them?
