(RepublicanDaily.org) – The left-wing of American politics seems to have become comfortable with the idea of censorship in recent years. It’s not hard to see why. It seems as though social media platforms are targeting the people they take issue with, like former President Donald Trump.
It was therefore entirely unsurprising to hear White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki come out in defense of social media censorship this week. On Wednesday, May 5, during a press briefing, Psaki discussed the decision by Facebook’s Oversight Board to allow the continuation of Trump’s suspension from the company’s platforms. She relayed President Joe Biden’s view that “major platforms have a responsibility… to stop amplifying untrustworthy content.”

That sounds good in theory, of course, until you realize the platforms themselves get to decide what’s “untrustworthy.” Although they are private companies, should they really have the ability to silence so many people? Billions of people across the world use Facebook — that gives the company an awful lot of power.
