Use These Apps at the Pump to Save Money

(RepublicanDaily.org) – It’s no secret that fluctuating gas prices can cause major headaches for consumers. An unfavorable market can lead to serious jumps in driving costs in a given month. However, there are ways to minimize the pain by using one or more of the smartphone apps discussed in this article.

Gas Guru

Gas Guru helps you to find the best value for gas in your area. It’s available on both the Google Play and Apple App Stores. When you open the app, it will show what prices are offered at gas stations in your vicinity. You can filter the selection for fuel grade, so it works whether you use premium or regular gas, and you can also check what other services (such as food outlets) are offered at the gas station.

MapQuest

MapQuest has been around since 1996, but it’s still doing plenty to help save drivers money. Its primary function is navigation, but it also highlights the location of gas stations and their fuel prices along any route you’re traveling. Other handy features include traffic information and a reservation-booking tool for some restaurants.

Speedy Rewards

A Speedway offering, Speedy Rewards allows you to collect reward points every time you purchase gas at any of the chain’s outlets across the United States. You can then redeem these points for different goods and services, or for more gas.

Of course, in order to benefit from this app, you need to buy your gas from Speedway. However, if you use Speedy Rewards as well as other apps on this list, you can still use them to make significant savings in the long run.

GasBuddy

GasBuddy is a crowdsourced app that shows road users the different gas prices in their areas. Just type in your ZIP code and you’ll see what prices are available at different stations. The app relies on data from users as well as the gas stations themselves. While prices aren’t always completely accurate, they’re generally close enough to the mark.

If you drive a lot, it might be worth signing up for GasBuddy’s premium service. For a monthly or annual fee, you can save between 20 and 40 cents a gallon on as much as 50 gallons of gas every month at 95% of the gas stations across the nation.

So, there you have it. If you’re sick and tired of unstable gas prices hurting your pocketbook, your smartphone can help save the day — or at least a few dollars.
