China Gaining Power While US Military Continues to Get Weaker
(RepublicanDaily.org) – The United States faces many challenges from overseas, but most analysts appear to agree that China’s is the most potent. The dangers the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) poses are economic, social, and, most worryingly of all, military. According to defense experts, the prowess of China’s combat forces is increasing all the time, while that of the United States is going in the opposite direction.
How America’s Military Is Regressing
Earlier this month, Navy Adm. Charles A. Richard made a speech at the Naval Submarine League’s 2022 Annual Symposium & Industry Update, warning that America’s armed forces needed to prepare for new challenges on the horizon. Richard, who is the commander of U.S. Strategic Command (Stratcom), stated: “rapid, fundamental change” was necessary for our armed forces to remain competitive against foreign aggressors like China, according to Defense.gov.
One major reason for our loss of competitive military advantages is a lag in the time it takes for new innovations to become available to troops, according to the commander. In the 1950s and 1960s, when the specter of open conflict with Russia was looming, the US military was able to produce new tools in much shorter time frames, he claimed.
It’s not all bad news, however. Richard stressed that America’s “undersea capabilities” far outpace those of China and other foreign rivals.
How China’s Military Might Is Growing
While the US struggles to produce worthwhile innovations at a respectable pace, China’s military scientists are moving at warp speed.
Earlier this year, the country unveiled the Fujian, a brand new type 003 aircraft carrier critics believe is the most sophisticated military ship of its type China has ever produced. Its launch system uses electromagnetic technology that will allow for quicker deployment of heavier aircraft than has previously been possible.
The vessel forms part of what is now reportedly the world’s largest Navy, in terms of the number of ships. While critics say the US Navy remains more powerful, they warn Chinese expansion efforts will only continue over the coming decades.
Will China Invade Taiwan?
One of the chief concerns related to China’s growing military might is the threat it could invade the sovereign island of Taiwan. The CCP has increasingly made overtures toward a potential effort to bring Taiwan directly under Beijing’s control in recent years. While US defense experts say they are confident no invasion will take place in the immediate future, there are huge concerns about America’s ability to stand in China’s way if it did decide to stage an attack.
Are you concerned about the capabilities of China’s military compared to those of our own?
