Trump Tells Fox He Wants Larger COVID-19 Relief Bill

( – President Donald Trump has reiterated his support for a comprehensive relief bill. On Tuesday, October 20, during an interview with Fox News, he stated Congress should approve a bigger package than the $2.2-trillion proposal House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) put on the table.

Trump’s statements are somewhat at odds with the position of Congressional Republicans during negotiations on a relief package. The GOP has consistently expressed reluctance to accept Nancy Pelosi’s proposed measures, which they feel are far too expensive. However, Trump feels the American people deserve financial relief after tolerating the difficulties that have come with COVID-19.

This is not a new idea from President Trump. He’s been pushing for a generous package for weeks now, despite the disapproval of Republican senators. The White House previously floated a deal costing around $1.8 trillion; even that was too high for senior GOP members.

The president does not have the power to push through a deal like this without the approval of the Senate. That said, it’ll be interesting to see how Pelosi and the Democrats respond to his position on this matter.
