Trump Campaign Ramps Up Attacks on DeSantis’ Presidential Bid

(RepublicanDaily.org) – The Trump presidential campaign has reportedly ramped up attacks on any potential presidential bid from Ron DeSantis.

Former President Donald Trump made a public televised dig against DeSantis by praising former Florida Governor Charlie Crist, a Republican who transitioned to a Democrat. Trump received criticism for saying that Florida had been “doing great” before “Ron DeSanctus” (one of the nicknames Trump has assigned to DeSantis) took office, Fox News reported. This televised dig was one of many reportedly aggressive tactics Trump and his campaign have taken against Trump’s presidential campaign rival.

In recent news, Trump has elevated verbal jabs at DeSantis, both through broadcast and his social media company Truth Social, dubbing the Florida governor with nicknames such as “Ron DeSanctimonious” and “Meatball Ron.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ staffers responded to an ethics complaint filed by the Trump-associated super PAC, Make America Great Again, Inc. with the Florida ethics commission, National Review reported. The ethics complaint, which was first reported by NBC News, accused DeSantis, Trump’s likely contender for the Republican nomination in the Presidential elections 2024 campaign race, of running a “shadow campaign” for the presidency.

In a draft sent to the Florida Commission of Ethics on March 15, the SPAC accused DeSantis of receiving millions of dollars of “illegal gifts” through the Governor’s associated 501(c) (4) organizations.

The filing claimed there was “probable cause” that the Governor has misused his office to drive personal political gain for his potential presidential run. The complaint then demanded that the Florida ethics commission impose “the most severe punishments” that it could execute against him, including potential impeachment, the censure of his office, removing him from office, or even imposing steep fines.

The governor’s communications director, Taryn Fenske, wrote a prepared response to these claims, claiming that the Make America Great Again, Inc. company was misusing the ethics commission for partisan purposes.
