(RepublicanDaily.org) – It’s no secret that there’s no love lost between former President Donald Trump and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). After the Kentucky senator turned on Trump following the events of January 6, the former president made it very clear that he was no longer an ally of McConnell’s. However, the two men still share a common purpose, and it now appears they may have found some common ground, as well.
On Wednesday, October 27, McConnell officially endorsed retired football star Herschel Walker in his bid to win a US Senate seat in Georgia. Walker is an ally of Donald Trump’s, and the 45th president has already stated his support for the former NFL player in the race.
In a statement confirming his endorsement of Herschel Walker, McConnell expressed his hope that the candidate would “unite the party” and overcome incumbent Democrat Raphael Warnock. Party insiders reportedly expressed reservations about Walker as a candidate, but McConnell has left no ambiguity about his position, as you can see below.

Might this development signal the beginning of closer ties between Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell? If that does come to pass, we could see a much more united Republican party heading into next year’s midterm elections. With Democrats deeply divided on critical issues, that would offer a considerable advantage.
