Tom Cotton Asks DOJ to Investigate Racial Segregation (REPORT)

( – Racial equality has been one of the main aims of the Right and Left for a long time now. However, in pursuit of this goal, some institutions have imposed rules that actually segregate people of different races in attempts to promote minority rights. In universities, for example, there are reports certain events have been aimed exclusively at people of color.

Letter to the Attorney General

Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) and Senator Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) are currently working on this issue. On Thursday, October 22, Cotton penned a letter to Attorney General William Barr that described events in the University of Michigan-Dearborn and the University of Kentucky. Cotton alleges both institutions discriminated against white students. He also refers to the “growing trend” of segregation on college campuses in general.

University of Kentucky

In August, the University of Kentucky allegedly scheduled two training days for resident assistants. One of these was for white people to attend, while the other was for people who identified as “Black, Indigenous, [or People] of Color.”

The instruction each group reportedly received was different; in the case of the group of white people, the training module was named “White Accountability Space.” While all participants received an invite to both training sessions, they were encouraged to attend the event which best corresponded “to their identity.”

University of Michigan-Dearborn

In September, the University of Michigan-Dearborn held two online discussions about diversity. One was exclusively for people of color, while the other was just for white people. The event moderators were also appointed on the basis of their race in each instance. The school has since apologized.

The events under investigation could have broken Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This provision expressly prohibits the exclusion of any person from any federally-funded event on the basis of their race.

After Americans fought for decades to secure equality between races, the modern left has hijacked the movement. Those fighting for this type of “social justice” are clearly doing so to score political points, rather than to foster real harmony between different communities.
