(RepublicanDaily.org) – The U.S. is more divided than ever thanks to the Capitol protests, ongoing Big Tech censorship and Trump impeachment concerns. It goes without saying that there are people who have negative opinions of Donald and Melania, even now that they are out of the White House. It’s one thing to express these opinions, but it’s another issue entirely to express them by making discriminatory posts online.
On Friday, January 22, Liberal actor Tim Matheson, who is best known for his role as Vice President John Hoynes in The West Wing, mocked Melania Trump’s accent on Twitter. He said it was great to have a new first lady “who can speak English.” People online were quick to call out Matheson, and he later removed the tweet and apologized for it by posting the following.
This morning I made a hasty and stupid joke about the former First Lady. It wasn't funny, and it was in poor taste. It was regretful and humorless and I apologize.

The Twitter responses to Matheson’s apology were almost uniformly negative. Some questioned his sincerity, while others noted he had gotten off lightly for his discriminatory remark.
After his apology, it emerged he had also tweeted in response to David Shafer that the former first lady “didn’t have his respect for anything,” on Friday. This post has also since disappeared.
