The FBI Is Focused on Domestic Terrorism Now More Than Ever

(RepublicanDaily.org) – Since the January 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol Building, federal law enforcement has had a much sharper focus on the threat of domestic terrorism. A recent report from Newsweek revealed that the FBI is currently investigating triple the number of domestic terror cases it was five years ago.

The article explains that domestic terror cases are those involving threats of violence where the motive involves the “furtherance of a social or political goal.” A senior government official who spoke to Newsweek for the piece stated the reason the Bureau is so focused on these cases at the moment is that there is an obsession with former President Donald Trump and the events of January 6 in Washington, D.C. However, the individual insisted the increased level of work on what they called “political terrorism” was not because of political partisanship on the part of the FBI.

The Newsweek report also noted that the FBI has reclassified threats of extremism related to anti-Semitism, white supremacy, abortion, and members of the LGBTQ+ community as “hate crimes” instead of terrorism. This technical change has resulted in the allocation of fewer resources to address these threats, because terrorism is a higher priority for investigators than hate crimes.

Do you think the extent of the FBI’s focus on domestic terrorism is justified?
