(RepublicanDaily.org) – Gun violence is once again occupying our headlines. On March 22, a gunman shot and killed 10 people in a Boulder, CO grocery store. That shooting came just a week after an Atlanta, GA gunman took the lives of eight in three massage parlors. These tragedies have re-ignited the debate around gun control in Washington, DC.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) weighed in on the discussion on Tuesday, March 23, during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. The Texas lawmaker slammed Democratic proposals in favor of stricter gun rules, calling their suggestions “ridiculous theater.” He went on to state that more stringent rules around firearms would “do nothing to stop these murders.”
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) during gun violence hearing:
“Every time there’s a shooting, we play this ridiculous theater … Democrats propose taking away guns from law-abiding citizens … it makes it worse.”pic.twitter.com/yXUHsj6qG0

Cruz also reminded the committee of legislation he and Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) previously introduced that aimed to restrict firearm access for violent criminals and the mentally ill. He suggested this kind of direct measure would be much fairer than the broad policy changes favored by Democrats.
As Conservatives have been pointing out for years now, gun violence is too complex an issue to be solved with outright bans or other arbitrary restrictions. Limiting Second Amendment rights could end up benefiting criminals by taking weapons out of the hands of honest, law-abiding Americans.
