(RepublicanDaily.org) – Democratic Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib of Michigan is under fire for recent anti-Israeli comments. Tlaib tweeted that ongoing clashes in Jenin, Palestine are evidence of Israel being a “violent” and “apartheid regime” after she claimed Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) members were “blocking” emergency medical crews from accessing Palestinians injured in the fighting.
Anti-Defamation League chief Jonathan Greenblatt accused Tlaib of advancing “fiction,” saying that her lies are “slander” which increase hatred of Jewish people around the world. Greenblatt accused Tlaib of trying to “knowingly slander the Jewish state” and said she needs to be held “accountable” for her “staggering dishonesty.”
Tlaib has previously been accused of anti-Semitism by her own party after comments she made last year saying no true progressive could also support Israel. At that time Jewish Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schulz of Florida accused Tlaib of advancing “outrageous” and “anti-Semitic” points of view which have no place in the Democratic party.
The IDF is undertaking its largest military raid in years in the West Bank city of Jenin, where they have uncovered a militant group working to attack and kill Israelis. According to reports, Palestinian terrorists in Jenin sponsored by the Islamic Republic of Iran were the targets of the ongoing Israeli action and were exposed for stashing weapons under a mosque, locating their military operations nearby to a school and were behind the murder and attempted murder of Israeli civilians. Over 197 Palestinians have been killed in the ongoing fighting including 92 women and dozens of minors. Israel says the operation is focused on Hamas fighters and claims the teenagers killed were fighting for the terrorist group.
Tlaib is a Palestinian-American who was elected in 2018 and is considered part of the informal “Squad,” an alliance of far-left progressives including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Ayanna Pressley. She has been frequently praised by the left, including recent comments by President Joe Biden applauding her as a “fighter” who is full of “passion.” Wishing Tlaib’s extended family in Palestine health and safety, Biden said his administration will do “everything” they can to ensure that her relatives stay safe during the fighting. For her part, Tlaib has been critical of Biden saying he “takes orders” from Israel’s right-wing leader Benjamin Netanyahu. Biden has said Israel has a “right” to its own defense but emphasized his desire for a ceasefire as soon as possible.
