(RepublicanDaily.org) – Democratic Michigan Representative Rashida Tlaib has been censured by Marjorie Taylor Greene for alleged “antisemitic activity” in light of her harsh criticisms of Israel in the wake of the Hamas’ devastating October 7 attacks on the Jewish state that has left thousands dead.
Tlaib, who belongs to the far-left group of lawmakers in the House called the “Squad,” is of Palestinian ethnicity, and has continued displaying the Palestinian flag outside her office in Congress, albeit one different from the one used by Hamas.
She has also called for an “international independent investigation” into the bombing of a hospital in Gaza, which claimed the lives of 500 people, mostly civilians. Hamas and the Palestinian government have pointed at Israel as the culprit. Israel has denied the accusations, saying that the hospital was hit by a missile that was misfired by forces belonging to a small, off-shoot jihadist military group that works with Hamas. Information from U.S. intelligence supports that claim.
However, Tlaib has continued to blame Israel for the incident, saying that both the governments of Israel and the U.S. have “long, documented histories of misleading the public about wars and war crimes.”
Tlaib’s actions have prompted marked responses, mostly from Republicans. Ohio Representative Max Miller has filed a resolution seeking to ban the display of all foreign flags in Congress, saying that the halls of Congress “should be reserved for flags that embody our great nation”, adding that the flag of Palestine “should not have a place here (in Congress).” Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, on the other hand, has filed a resolution seeking censure over “antisemitic activity,” as well as “sympathizing with terrorist organizations.” Greene is also accusing Tlaib of “leading an insurrection at the United States Capitol Complex” after a recent protest in the Capitol calling for a ceasefire in the Middle East saw more than 300 protesters arrested.
However, a Democratic colleague, Florida Representative Jared Moskowitz – who is Jewish – said that a censure of Tlaib should be “something that everyone should consider” given her actions. He also called the Palestinian Ministry of Health a “terrorist organization telling people what we want to hear,” as he expressed disappointment in colleagues in the liberal party that continue to believe in believe in “propaganda to the 10th degree.”
