Special Counsel Claims Trump “Deliberately Misled” His Attorneys Over Classified Documents

(RepublicanDaily.org) – A special counsel has claimed that Trump “deliberately misled” his attorneys over the classified documents that he reportedly took to his private estate at Mar-a-Lago, Palm Beach, Florida from the White House, mainstream media outlets reported.

The claim that Trump misled his attorneys was filed by special counsel Jack Smith, the special counsel appointed by the United States Department of Justice to investigate Trump’s “potential mishandling” of classified documents. The U.S. Judge Beryl Howell, who stepped down on March 17 as the D.C. district court’s chief judge, wrote an opinion last week that Smith’s office had made “prima facie” showing Trump had committed criminal violations with the documents, ABC reported. According to Cornell University, “prima facie” is a legal term that means “first impression” evidence.

The allegations sparked a firestorm of commentary in the media. Trump is currently braced with multiple legal scandals. Looming alongside the special counsel’s investigation, Trump also faces a possible indictment for the case of hush money paid to former adult film star Stormy Daniels. While Trump had not been formally charged at the time of this report, The New York Times reported that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg appeared “poised” to arrest Trump.

While left-leaning outlets stated that it was likely Trump would be indicted for the Daniels case, right-leaning influencers suggested otherwise.

The former chief assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, Andy McCarthy, wrote an opinion article on Fox News on March 21 stating that, in his view, it was unlikely that Bragg would convict Trump of a felony.

Trump responded to the allegations that he misled his lawyers, and harshly “disputed” the “fake” reports by ABC, Fox News reported. In his social media posts, Trump claimed that ABC News “illegally leaked” false allegations from a “Never Trump.” Trump argued that ABC was “fake news.”
