(RepublicanDaily.org) – The race for military superiority never ends. While the US is not involved in any large-scale armed engagement at the moment, the possibility of new conflict is ever-present. That’s why our government invests so heavily in ensuring our military has the most advanced possible equipment at all times.
Nowadays, that’s less about bullets and bombs, and more about cutting-edge software. On Monday, November 9, the US Department of Defense (DOD) announced a new deal with Lockheed Martin. The $258-million contract will see the aerospace and defense firm develop a prototype payload for the Evolved Strategic Satcom (ESS) program the US Space Force uses.

This program is aiming to provide a more reliable and secure communication framework for the US military. It’ll eventually replace the current Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) system. This is the third contract of this kind that the DOD has given Lockheed Martin.
There’s a lot of complex science at play here, which can make it difficult to digest exactly what’s going on. However, military engineering doesn’t have to be straightforward; it just has to keep us safe.
