(RepublicanDaily.org) – The American defense budget is often the subject of fierce debate. However, when you consider the military capabilities of the countries with which we’ve had rocky relations in the past, it starts to look like a necessary evil.
On Wednesday, December 30, Russia’s Deputy Defense Minister, Alexey Krivoruchko, gave an interview with a military newspaper during which he discussed the production of a new type of missile. The RS-28 Sarmat has been under development for the better part of a decade, and is set to be ready for use by 2022. Krivoruchko revealed that flight tests of the missile will be carried out in the coming weeks.
The RS-28 will reportedly have a range of over 6,200 miles and the ability to destroy an area the size of Texas.
While developments like these are not necessarily an indication of imminent conflict, they should give us pause for thought. While our armed forces do take up a lot of resources, they offer protection we simply cannot afford to go without.
