Republicans Want Biden to Stop Sending Money to Palestinians

( – The conflict between Israel and Palestine is one of the longest-running in modern history. Relations between the two have been fraught with drama since the establishment of the Israeli nation in 1948. The conflict is frequently the subject of media and political attention worldwide, including in the US, which has traditionally had a close alliance with Israel.

The United Nations Relief and Work Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA)

The UNRWA is a refugee agency that, according to its website, provides “assistance and protection to some 5.7 million Palestinian refugees.” This agenda sounds like a laudable aim; however, the nature of the group’s actual activities may be somewhat different.

The Trump administration froze US funding for the UNRWA in 2018 over concerns about antisemitism. Recorded undercover videos have since shown UNRWA teachers promoting aggression against Israel and the destruction of the Israeli nation.

Despite these issues, however, President Joe Biden’s team resumed American support of the UNRWA soon after his inauguration.

Senators Call for Immediate Funding Cut

On Thursday, April 22, a group of 21 Republican Senators penned a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken concerning the UNRWA. In response to ongoing concerns about how the agency directs its resources, the Senators called for the cessation of US assistance to the UNRWA “unless true reform… is secured.” The letter alleges the agency has affiliations with Hamas, a Palestinian political group regarded as a terrorist organization, and that Hamas weapons have been stored in UNRWA schools.

It makes no sense for the US to direct its taxpayers’ resources toward incompatible programs with our shared national values. The Biden administration cannot continue to allow the UNRWA to fund its antisemitic, pro-jihad agenda with our money.
