(RepublicanDaily.org) – Around the world, supply chain issues are starting to lead to significant breakdowns in the availability of goods, which has retailers particularly worried given the looming holiday season. Many businesses were looking forward to a strong Christmas after a lull in earnings during COVID-19, but that prospect may be under threat. However, the Port of Los Angeles has embraced an innovative way of addressing the problem.
On Wednesday, October 13, President Joe Biden announced his administration had worked with officials at the port on a deal that will now see the facility operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Those in charge hope it’ll help relieve major backlogs at the port. The latest statistics show that there are 62 berths between this port and the one at Long Beach, with another 81 vessels waiting to unload cargo.
Biden will unveil a WH-brokered plan to keep the Ports of LA & Long Beach open 27/7 to ease supply chain pressure.

The port at Long Beach has been operational on a 24/7 basis for nearly a month now. These extended hours of operation mean there will be almost twice as many hours of unloading at the Port of Los Angeles every day. Though the scale of the challenge facing the facilities is undoubtedly large, the Biden administration and those in charge of the ports are hopeful that initiatives like this might make a crucial difference.
