(RepublicanDaily.org) – Political analysts claimed that the Trump legal team’s decision to file a lawsuit against Michael Cohen, a former Trump lawyer, and central witness in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Trump prosecution, would have “boomerang” effects, Mother Jones wrote. The Mother Jones political analysis states that, while Michael Cohen won’t be the only witness in D.A. Alvin Bragg’s criminal case against Trump, he will be “a star witness.” In that case, Trump’s legal team will reportedly need to focus on discrediting his witness to overturn the charges.
Trump faces a series of legal cases, including Alvin Bragg’s prosecution. Bragg’s case involves hush money payments made by Trump’s company to the former adult film star Stormy Daniels, who claimed she was paid for her silence about her affair with Trump. Trump has been charged by Bragg’s prosecution with 34 felony counts of business document fraud.
Trump also faces a civil lawsuit from New York Attorney General Letitia James, who has compelled the former president to sit in two separate hearings for charges of civil fraud, The Wall Street Journal reported.
In addition to James’ civil fraud lawsuit, in New York, Trump also faces a defamation lawsuit from writer E. Jean Carroll, who accused Trump of raping her in the dressing room of a Bergdorf Goodman high-end retail store in t 1990. Carroll detailed her account of the alleged rape in an excerpt from her book The Cut which was published in 2019. In an excerpt of the book, which was reviewed by Refinery29, Carroll alleged that she met Trump in the retail store, was asked to help him find a present for a woman, and was then assaulted in an unmonitored dressing room.
Trump, however, maintained that he never met Carroll and that she was a “liar”. Carroll filed a lawsuit for this response. Although Trump attempted to appeal the date of his appearance in the Carroll lawsuit, a judge denied his appeal, ABC News reported.
In addition to these legal cases in New York, Trump also faces election fraud allegations in Fulton County, Georgia, and an investigation into his involvement in the January 6, 2021 events at the Capitol, where a rabble broke into Congress to demand the 2020 Presidential electoral vote certification be halted, NPR News explained.
