(RepublicanDaily.org) – The online world contains a vast number of opportunities in terms of education, business, socializing, and much more. Unfortunately, it can also be a very dangerous place, particularly for young people. A recent story out of Florida illustrates just how high a risk the internet can be for the uninitiated.
According to an Epoch Times report, law enforcement officials in Marion County, FL arrested 22 men who were attempting to meet up with children for the purpose of engaging in illegal sexual activity. Through a project with the codename “April Fools,” county deputies liaised with federal, state, and local authorities to execute a sting operation against the alleged offenders.
For six days, detectives from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and police officers from Belleview, Dunnellon, Ocala and Gainesville, along with national agencies ran ‘Operation: April Fools.’

Per the report, undercover operatives entered into correspondence with 19 men and led them to believe they were interacting with young people between the ages of 12 and 16. The men allegedly traveled to various locations within Marion County with the intention of engaging in sex acts with children. During their online conversations, some of the men reportedly described in detail the sex acts they intended to perform with the supposed young people.
An updated report from ClickOrlando.com relates that another five individuals have since been arrested in connection with the sting operation, and police are still looking further for three others.
