Nikki Haley Formally Announces White House Bid

( – Nikki Haley, a former Trump administration ambassador and the former governor of South Carolina, has formally announced the beginning of her campaign for the Republican candidate in the 2024 Presidential Elections, The New York Times reported.

Nikki Haley kicked off the Stand For America campaign officially on February 14, Reuters reported. Haley becomes the first member of the Republican Party to launch a counter campaign to take on former President Donald Trump’s campaign.

Haley’s official announcement has been anticipated for a while, as more prominent conservative political figures publicized intentions to join the nominee race to challenge former President Donald Trump’s campaign. She worked under Trump as an ambassador during his tenure as president, having been tapped by Trump in 2017 to represent the United States at the United Nations.

In her campaign promotion video, Haley declared that it is time for “a new generation of leadership” that would “rediscover fiscal responsibility.” Haley’s campaign will focus on border security, strengthening the country, promoting pride in the national identity of Americans, and the overall American sense of purpose.

In her campaign video, Haley did not launch any direct political attacks on Trump, Reuters reported. However, she did “bemoan” Republican performance in past elections, noting that Republicans have lost the popular vote in seven out of eight of the presidential elections of recent history.

Haley has reportedly distanced herself from the former president since the events of January 6, 2021, when rioters stormed the Capitol during the notarizing of Presidential Election 2020 electoral college votes

While Haley is the first to announce the official presidential race bid, she does not lead the popular vote for a potential Trump parallel Republican nominee. Incumbent Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is the current favorite counterpart to Trump. DeSantis, in recent popular polls, looks “more electable” against Biden than Donald Trump, The Morning Consult wrote.

DeSantis holds a higher poll performance for likability in some of the key states of the election than both Trump and DeSantis, Forbes reported.
