(RepublicanDaily.org) – Republican Senator Mitch McConnell was hospitalized after falling at the Washington Hotel, The New York Times reported. The 81-year-old senator was attending a private dinner for the Senate Leadership Fund when he fell. It was later reported that McConnell was being treated for a concussion, Bloomberg reported. Despite suffering a concussion when he fell, McConnell will stay in the hospital for a “few days” and should be released after, the senator’s spokesman David Popp confirmed, NBC reported.
President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden expressed wishes of a “speedy recovery” to the Senator, via a tweet that was published on March 9.
McConnell has been in the spotlight following his “attack” on the portrayal of the events of January 6, 2021, as they were portrayed by Fox News and the Fox News host Tucker Carlson, NPR wrote. McConnell stated that, in his view, it was a “mistake” for Fox News to portray the events in a way that was “completely at variance” with what the law enforcement officers who responded to the scene reported happened, NPR reported. McConnell stated that he believed the chief of Capitol police’s version of events was the “correct” description of what took place that day.
McConnell was also recently active in the media when he took to the Senate floor to give dueling criticisms of the East Palestine, Ohio train derailment, Politico reported. McConnell addressed the situation, criticizing Pete Buttigieg, the Department of Transportation Secretary. Conversely, Senator Schumer called on the Norfolk Southern train line CEO Alan Shaw to testify before the Senate about the derailment and any possible violations the Norfolk Southern company may have contributed to the catastrophic chemical leak that was the result of these events, Politico reported. The dueling positions reportedly contributed to a “maelstrom” of politics surrounding the tragic events.
On Monday, March 13, McConnell was discharged from the hospital.
