(RepublicanDaily.org) – McDonalds lovers, rejoice! The popular fast food chain says that it will be offering its “Free Fries Friday” promotion to customers until the end of the year.
The promotion kicks in for all customers who make any purchase of at least $1. The only caveats are that customers can only avail of the promotion once every Friday, and the order and the purchase has to be made via the fast food chain’s mobile app.
Customers will need to pick out the promotion in the “Deals” section of the app, and then choose the “Add Deal to Mobile Order” option. In exchange, customers will receive medium-sized fries when they pick up their order in-store or through the Drive-Thru window. Customers opening the app on a Friday will also receive a notification reminding them of the promotion.
What’s more, new users of the app can also get a free ten-piece chicken McNuggets with their first purchase of at least $1.
The move is ostensibly to help drive more sales through the mobile app, as the company reported generating as much as $8 billion in its second fiscal quarter through digital sales alone in its top six markets. Data from QSR Magazine says that McDonalds saw its app downloaded a whopping 127 million times in 2022 alone, with 40 million of those downloads from customers in the U.S. – 194% more than app downloads for another popular chain, Starbucks. The company reported $2.31 billion for its second fiscal quarter of 2023 and $6.5 billion in revenues for the same time period.
This is not the first time McDonald’s has had a free food promotion for customers – it gave out free fries to customers in July in celebration of “National French Fry Day,” and on it’s 40th anniversary, it treated customers to a free box of six-piece chicken McNuggets. It also sold double cheeseburgers for only 50 cents during National Cheeseburger Day last month.
