(RepublicanDaily.org) – Father Frank Pavone has been a well-known pro-life activist for a number of years. He was a director of Priests for Life at one point and was also national co-chair of ProLife Voices for Trump, an organization aligned with the views of former President Donald Trump. However, the Vatican recently made the official decision to remove Pavone as a priest over his social media activity and his clashes with church officials.
The prefect of the Dicastery for the Clergy reportedly made the decision to defrock Pavone in November, before Archbishop Christophe Pierre, the apostolic nuncio to the United States, informed American bishops of the decision on December 13.
Pavone responded to the news of his removal via Twitter. He implied he had been defrocked because of his political beliefs and was committed to maintaining his defense of pro-life values going forward, according to the Daily Mail. In a subsequent tweet, he reiterated his team’s commitment to continue its work.
Thanks for the outpouring of support for me & Priests For Life! My board, pastoral team & staff are 1000% united with me in moving forward with our work. We will not slow down.
My vocation is to be a priest and a #prolife leader and I will not walk away from either one of those!— Fr. Frank Pavone (@frfrankpavone) December 19, 2022
Pavone is perhaps most infamous for a video in which he showed a dead fetus on a church altar in Amarillo, Texas, in 2016. He was later forced to leave the diocese.
Do you think it was the right decision by the Catholic Church to defrock Frank Pavone?
