Liz Cheney Changes Stance on Gay Marriage, Now in Full Support

Liz Cheney MARRIAGE Claim Is Raising Eyebrows

( – Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) has had a difficult time within the Republican Party over the last 18 months. Last year, after she opposed former President Donald Trump in his second impeachment trial, the Wyoming GOP censured her and later stopped recognizing her membership in the organization altogether. Now, the controversial lawmaker is in the headlines for a different reason; her 180-degree turn on the subject of gay marriage.

On Tuesday, July 19, Rep. Cheney was among 47 Republicans who voted in favor of the Respect for Marriage Act. The legislation protects gay and interracial marriage from rulings against them by the courts. The bill passed the chamber on a vote of 267-157.

The vote marks a change of heart for Cheney, who previously opposed same-sex marriage. During an appearance on CNN with host Jake Tapper, she admitted that her past opposition to it was mistaken and expressed her love for her sister (who is a lesbian) and her family.

Democrats are uniformly in favor of gay marriage. A majority of Republicans in the House voted against the bill, but a growing minority within the GOP now also supports it. Reps. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) and Tom Emmer (R-MN) were among those to join the Left in voting in favor of this piece of legislation.

Should more Republicans back marriage equality?
