Ken Paxton Uncertain About His Future After Impeachment

( – Embattled Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is hitting back at fellow Republicans who supported the failed impeachment complaint against him, saying that he might just run for office so that somebody will finally “do the job and do it the right way” when it comes to representing the people of Texas.

The State Senate of Texas voted to acquit Paxton of 16 articles of impeachment leveled against him over allegations of misconduct, bribery and corruption.

Saying he feels vindicated over the verdict, Paxton took aim at Republican Texas Representative John Cornyn, whom Paxton said had accomplished nothing for Texas, much less the country, further accusing the congressman of being “vacant” on the issue of illegal crossings on the border. Texas, along with California and Arizona, have seen a large influx of migrants attempting to cross the border illegally, and many border communities and the local governments the support them have been constantly overwhelmed by the crisis.

Cornyn, while himself was not directly involved in the impeachment proceedings against Paxton, did not support the Texas AG either. The congressman instead expressed concern over the seriousness of the allegations against Paxton, calling them “very deeply disturbing”, and said that Paxton’s impeachment trial was “painful” to witness.

Paxton also granted an interview to former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, where he said that “everything’s on the table,” implying that he could run against Cornyn during the primary in March.

“I think it’s time somebody needs to step up and run against this guy,” Paxton told the conservative pundit.

The Texas AG of course did not spare President Joe Biden and other state Democrats who led the impeachment against him, such as Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan, whom he accused of setting up a “kangaroo court” that “cost taxpayers millions of dollars.” Paxton also claimed that the Biden administration was retaliating for the multiple lawsuits his office filed against the federal government.

Paxton’s legal woes are far from over though, as he continues to face an FBI investigation, as well as felony charges related to securities fraud.
