(RepublicanDaily.org) – Vice President Kamala Harris is seemingly undergoing a change in image in the run up to the presidential elections next year, emerging as the Democrats’ attack dog, ready to confront issues Republicans like to throw at the administration and going after GOP ideals and personalities in turn.
The has been no shortage of attacks from the GOP against the vice president, with some like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis calling her a liar over their tiff regarding the state’s controversial middle school African American history curriculum. Others, like GOP presidential hopeful and former ambassador and South Carolina governor Nikki Haley, caution that given President Joe Biden’s advanced age and the potential cognitive issues that come with it, Harris could very well be the next president of the United States.
In an interview with Politico, Harris seems unfazed by all of this, saying that her detractors focus on her because they are trying to deflect the public’s attention away from “what the Biden-Harris administration has delivered.” She also slammed the “so-called leaders” in the GOP who she says “aren’t focused on tackling the issues or challenges this country is facing.”
The vice president has also taken on the unofficial role of chief fundraiser for the Biden-Harris campaign, and is even expected to outdo the president himself in raking in money from donors. Her schedule is filled with engagements for speeches and fundraisers – such as events at the affluent Martha’s Vineyard is Massachusetts where participants forked over anywhere from $50 to $10,000 to attend – and her camp has made her more available to news outlets (such as the Politico piece) in an effort to let the public see how she works behind the scenes.
Harris is also serving as a gatekeeper of sorts for the president, herself admitting that she makes sure that Biden only gets information that is “not sugarcoated and not filtered,” or as a former White House chief of staff put it, making sure that no “*********” information” reaches the Oval Office. The White House itself has acknowledged the integral part the vice president plays in the scheme of things, telling Democratic donors and supporters in a recent message that Harris is a “strong political force” and a “fearless voice” that champions Democratic advocacies and an “invaluable asset” to the party’s campaign.
